Comments: Frequently seen in city environments as street trees, they can be a problem. Silver maples are weak wooded and branches can fall during storms and strong winds. Silver maple gets its name from the silvery underside of its leaf. The deeply lobed and sharply toothed leaf is probably the element that makes identification of the silver maple from other maple leaves quite easy. The tree can withstand moist soil conditions and can be found along stream banks and wetlands.
