Comments: Looking at the bark of the black cherry trees as potato chips glued to the tree trunk is helpful in identifying this tree. The cherry syrup of the tree can be used to make cough medicine, wine or jelly. Lumber is used for furniture and fine wood working. As of August 1994, the market value of a veneer quality black cherry tree 65’ in height with a 24” diameter at breast height (4-6” from ground) was approximately $900.
