Lake Carey

Wyoming County, Tunkhannock Quadrangle

Lake Carey is one of the largest of the lakes dammed by glacial deposits in the area.  It is divided into two unequal portions by a series of "till knobs" or a "morainic loop."  The outlet is currently blocked by a 10-foot high human-made dam to raise and stabilize the lake level.  Beyond the spillway, the water passes over a series of rock ledge waterfalls dropping about 130 feet to Billings Mill Brook, which feeds into Tunkhannock Creek.
