Constituents in this sub-watershed include lake residents,
preservationists in the historic towns and members of the farm

The Lower Main Stem
Nicholson to the Susquehanna River following the Rt. 6 corridor
from Bardwell to Tunkhannock. Includes:
Lake Carey draining to Billing Mill Creek; Swale Brook
Horton’s Creek, Field Brook, Monroe Creek
Oxbow Lake and Oxbow Creek
Springville, Lemon, Nicholson Township, Nicholson Borough,
Overfield and Tunkhannock Townships, Tunkhannock Borough
The East Branch
From its source in Herrick Township to its confluence with the
Main Stem near Glenwood.
Divided by Interstate 81, it follows the Rt. 374 corridor
Dundaff Creek from its source in Clifford Township to river
mile 4.39 (Newton Lake Outlet) to its confluence with the East
Branch at Clifford.
Watershed communities include Herrick, Clifford, Greenfield
and Lenox Townships, residential areas near Elk Mountain and East
Mountain and parts of Benton Township
The South Branch
From its source in Scott Township near Montdale to Lackawanna
State Park. Includes:
Chapman Lake, Sickler’s Pond, Elm Brook, Baylor’s Lake
Kewanee, Manataka and Sheridan Lakes drain here
Ackerly Creek from its source at Maggie’s Swamp to
Factoryville including Rabbit Hollow, Ackerly Fairgrounds and
ballfields, Glenburn Pond, Dalton Streamside Park, Lily Lake,
Keystone College campus and Christy Mathewson Park.
Kennedy Creek from its source in Scott Township near
Interstate 81 includes Spring Hill Farm, Manning Farm Diary and
Rowlands Farm
Municipalities include North Abington, Benton, Clinton,
Nicholson, Lemon, Tunkhannock, Overfield, South Abington,
Abington, Glenburn and La Plume Townships and Factoryville,
Nicholson and Dalton Boroughs.
Threatened by development along Rt. 6 and sprawl from Clarks
