The Tunkhannock Creek Watershed Atlas is a
collaborative project of the following partners: Keystone College, Keystone College’s Willary Water Resource Center (operated jointly by the College and the Lackawanna
County Conservation District), and Countryside Conservancy with funding support
from a Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Growing
Greener Grant.
Keystone College educates women and men in the liberal arts
tradition, while also emphasizing career training which combines
technology and applied skills with broad humanitarian concerns. The
College is committed to the development of well-educated,
self-directed persons who can communicate effectively, make informed
decisions, and think critically and creatively.
The Center is jointly operated by Keystone College and the
Lackawanna County
Conservation District. The
Center has served as a distribution center of Tunkhannock Creek Watershed
information and is the site of a large range of educational programs
and events, including environmental education programs for the
Tunkhannock Creek Watershed community.
The Conservancy, also located on the Keystone
College campus, is a private non-profit (501c-3) land trust, with
the mission of preserving land and open space in and around the
Tunkhannock Creek Watershed. The Conservancy has placed over 300
acres of farm, wetlands and open space under permanent protection
since it began in 1994. The main focus of its program for the past
two years has been to compile a Greenway Plan for the watershed to recommend preservation strategies to local municipal
officials and landowners.
